The Town Wall: Nördlingen’s Landmark Reimagined
Construction of the town wall from 1327 set Nördlingen on the path to becoming one of southern Germany’s most important trading towns. Almost tripling the area within the town and incorporating the course of the River Eger created space for new residential and commercial districts. To this day, the almost entirely preserved wall surrounds the unique historic old town, an outstanding monument to medieval and early modern urban architecture.

Ferdinand, the little town-watch pig, guides nursery and primary school children on a circular trail along the town wall, starting from the Tourist Information Centre. Games and activities about the wall await at various stops along the way.

A Run of Lights along the Town Wall
As darkness falls over Nördlingen, the historic town wall becomes a very special running route. The Lichterlauf follows the approximately 2.7-kilometre fortifications through the old town at night, accompanied by atmospheric lights and a unique sense of place. Whether you come for the sport or simply to enjoy the occasion, the run combines movement, history and Nördlingen’s distinctive charm.
